I keep a straight face

but inside I'm secretly

smiling at myself.

In the rush to leave,

I may have overdone it.

Too sexy for work.

Winter hibernation.

Shut-down mode takes hold.

I feel my gaze draw inward.

And hey, it's ok. 

And so it goes.

Raw disappointment
fades with hard-won knowledge of
future potential.

So close to me but so far away.

Hearing her heart break

on the phone, from this distance -

My own heart broke, too.

You can't have too many sad days in a row.

With a gentle touch

a cautious optimism

quietly steps forth.
